Italian Cuisine
The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.
Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.
If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
Pizza
Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.
Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.
Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.

Excellent restaurant. Very nice folks. Original and tasty pizza. Excellent lasagna and meatballs. Eggplant Parma was also excellent. Very original salmon in philo crust. Closest restaurant to Longwood gardens. Thoroughly enjoyable.

Had a wonderful dinner last night at Bite of Italy. We had made reservations through Open Table, and we were glad we did as there was quite a crowd there. Our waiter was helpful, knowledgeable about the menu, and made sure that we had everything we needed throughout the meal. Food was delicious! Please note this is a BYOB (no corkage fee).

First time to this restaurant. Waitress was quite a novice, and from listening to the other wait staff, they have not had adequate training. There were only 2 of us, and she could not remember who ordered what. We had to ask as to what the specials were, we had to ask for refills on our long empty drinks (water and iced tea.) The caeser salad was very good, and nice portion. I ordered the lamb chop that was accompanied by sauteed spinach and mushroom risotto. The mushroom risotto was quite good. The lamb chops were cut in varied thicknesses, so when I asked for the lamb cooked med-well, the 2 thicker chops were raw. Really raw. I returned the 2 chops, and they did the right thing, sent 2 new ones to the table. Yep, they were raw. just barely browned on the outside, really? A second chance blown. The blood from these ran into my risotto, so thoroughly grossed out, I went for the spinach. It was so overly salted (and I am a salt lover, it was inedible.) Way too much garlic as well. My husband ordered the salmon in phyllo. Not much flavor, but a nice twist. Served with roasted potatoes. Overall, disappointed. Won't return. Saw what looked like a manager, with not too many customers. Surprised he did not stop to the table to see if the second round of lamb chops was OK.

Called ahead from the office to order take out for lunch - I stopped-in yesterday for a menu and it looked very appealing, and they offer a "Pick Two" Lunch Combo special for $10. Inside was gutted - no resemblance to Manny Hattans (the former occupant of the space) inside. It appears to be a BYOB - no bar as Manny's had, though it does have a nice counter for seating which overlooks the food/pizza prep area if that's your sort of thing. I got a soup and salad combo and my colleague got a soup and pizza combo. The soup (Zuppa Toscana - potato and cabbage with pancetta) was very tasty and the highlight of the meal for me. The salad I got (Veneziana Salad - spinach with pine nuts and a grilled portabello) was decent - was garnished with lemon slices, which I'd never seen before. Colleague said his pizza was tasty - definitely a "personal" size (maybe 6"-7" in diameter) that was appropriate as 1/2 of a lunch combo. Overall, I will return. The food was good and I am interested to try sitting down and eating there - there are many other options on the Pick Two for lunch and the dinner menu looks great as well. My feeling is that while they are capable of doing take-out, they are more oriented as a sit-down restaurant and taking-out was a little awkward - definitely not a pizza joint. All of that being said, I writing this on their second day in business - it will be interesting to see how the restaurant evolves as operations continue, they get busier (I'm sure they will), and they find their niche among the other options in town.

We ate here after visiting the nearby Longwood Gardens. At first, I was a bit skeptical about its small exterior store front and strip mall location, but don't let looks fool you. They offer a variety of choices on their menu. The oil / seasoning blend that came with the bread was very flavorful. I got the Salmon Incartato and it was delicous! The portion was huge and was seemed like a dish that would be served in a French restaurant. The salmon was wrapped in a light, pastry-like Phillo dough that was very savory. It was a very unique entree and one of the better salmon dishes I have ever had at a restaurant. My husband had the mushroom ravioli, which was okay and the portion was typical of ravioli dishes (not very big). I would definitely recommend trying out the salmon dish if you love fish!

Authentic, amazing Italian food. I am extremely picky when it comes to Italian food because of growing up having home made dishes from my Italian family, but this is by far the best Italian meal I have had. Must go!!

This was our first visit to this restaurant. We had 3 pasta dishes (gnocchi, lasagne and fettuccine) and they all were amazing. The sauces that accompany the dishes made the dishes unique, well spiced, and all different. The bread was homemade and served with virgin oil, garlic and pepper. We will definitely be back.

Great food, great service! So glad we found this place for my birthday dinner. I would definitely recommend this place to any Italian lover, especially since the food is so authentic!

Yummy thin crust pizza. Came here before heading to longwood. Was empty other than one table. However, we shared three pizzas and all were great. Super light and thin. Cannot comment on other food other than the pizza. Diavola was best but also tried a couple others and all were yummy

Absolutely superb!! I chose Bite of Italy for a family Christmas dinner after our day at Longwood Gardens. OMGoodness, the service and food were beyond excellent! Our server had quite the sense of humor we we all loved. My entire family couldn't say enough about how delicious their meals were. We opened our gifts and had six children with us and we felt very welcome to have our Christmas party. We all came from different areas, Delaware, Nj and Pa and we all are looking forward to returning!!u

Love, love love the veal saltimbocca! My veal dish was perfect with white northern beans and broccoli rabe. My husband had the seafood ravioli and it was delicious and everything super fresh. The seafood was fresh that morning. The bread is so soft and fresh out of the oven. Very tasty with the bread dipping oil. The owner was so nice and gave us bruschetta on the house. They know what they are doing with pizza too and explained everything about pizza. It's an art form to them not just sustenance.

First time. Last time. We ordered a pizza for take -out. It was so salty it was nearly inedible. One out of three of us ate it. Although their phone etiquette could use some work, I was greeted by a Very friendly and helpful manager at pick up -thus the second star. Order was filled quickly, but was, hands down, the worst pizza I've ever had. Will not be checking out the restaraunt.

Wonderful and imaginative food. We are always pleased with the wide variety and creations that we find here. The staff is incredibly friendly and polite and consistently demonstrate true hospitality. This is a favorite of ours after a day at the nearby Longwood Gardens!

Like many other reviewers, I found this place when scoping out restaurants close to Longwood Gardens. Usually, when we visit the gardens, my mom and I eat at the cafe there, but I feel that the food there is generally overpriced and mediocre. On Sat., I talked my mom into stopping here for a light meal before we entered the gardens instead, and it worked out quite nicely. Ideally, I would have liked to have ordered the lunch combo, but since we arrived right at 4pm (which is usually the cutoff for lunch, in my experience), I didn't inquire about it. Instead, we just ordered a margherita pizza with mushrooms. When the pizza came out, it had a nice, crispy crust, which is the key attribute that I always look for in a good wood-fired pizza. The amount of sauce was a bit on the heavy side, and flavor-wise, I found it a bit on the salty side, but neither took away too much from the pizza. There was a decent amount of fresh mozzarella and mushrooms, but I'm pretty sure that the mushrooms were from a can, rather than the fresh mushrooms I was hoping for, given that Kennett Square is a prime mushroom growing area. (Use of canned mushrooms is a crime that many well-known pizza places in Pittsburgh are guilty of, as well.) Despite these shortcomings, I was quite pleased with the quality of the pizza, esp. for the area--a good, crispy crust is something many of the wood-fired pizza places in Pittsburgh can't even seem to get right! We also decided to order dessert, and ordered the dark side of the moon torte. Upon eating it, it was clear that this dessert was pre-made and frozen, given that the bottom had some slight freezer burn. Despite this, the flavor was quite enjoyable--my mom, who loves chocolate, especially enjoyed it. The price, at $6, was a touch higher than I'd like, esp. for a previously frozen dessert. In general, we were pleased with our meal here, despite a few shortcomings. Our check came to $22, so with tip, we spent about what we would have spent at the cafe at Longwood, and the food was definitely a step up in quality. Our meal took around 45 min., so factoring in the extra bit of driving, we spent about as much time as we would have at the cafe, and we avoided the frustration of standing in line and dealing with screaming children running rampant. That's a win in my book!

Before driving down to Kennett for a day at Longwood Gardens with the grandparents as their Christmas gift, we scoped out yelp to see what restaurants would be close and offer up good food. So, with a reservation for 8 in the books, off we went. It's located in a shopping center about a mile from Longwood. The bright-neon sign was easy to spot, and we were seated in the back room, which was empty, but would be full by the time we left at 6:30. In short, everyone enjoyed their meals. The house salad ($3) was spot-on with a tasty balsamic dressing, and my linguini with crabmeat, was very good. Kids inhaled the pizzas, grandparents inhaled a margarita pizza, and wife liked the seafood ravioli. Waitress was prompt, friendly, and had everything correct the first time. Total bill for 5 adults and three kids was $140. Solid meal, good value. No hesitations in recommending!

We loved the food here. We tried four different dishes and two deserts. Everything tasted very good and fresh. They also can accommodate special requests you might have. Definitely recommend to stop for lunch or dinner.

I have to start by saying I am not a complainer and rarely say anything negative about places I go to dine because I have been in the industry for 20 years. With that said, we were greeted to an indifferent eye rolling waiter which was a turn off in and of itself but it gets worse. The bread that was delivered to our table was black and burned and not in a good, seared kind of way either. The soup was like just unseasoned cream and claimed to have cabbage in it, but there wasn't even a trace of a vegetable. So, our long awaited entrees arrived cold and the Pork in the sandwiches tasted old and a gamey. We gave up on asking for water refills. Please, avoid at all costs. The place next door is fantastic. Unfortunately they were packed.

Another great meal. Everything we have had here has been good. Tried their pizza for the first time and wasn't disappointed. With some restaurants I tend to order the same few items, not here, here I enjoy trying everything and never had a bad meal.

12/20/2014 I was searching for a place for dinner to end my trip to Longwood Gardens the weekend before Christmas and found this place online and I wasn't disappointed. It was around a 5 mins drive from Longwood and I was able to get a table around 8:30pm without reservation and only couple minutes wait on a Saturday. It was located in a shopping center and it was easy to spot, lots of parking space. We opened the door and was greeted by the adorable and polite 7 year old Paolo, He asked us to enjoy a drink at the bar while waiting for our table, then he cleaned and get my wife and I one of the booth tables, and also brought us menus. The waitress was also very nice and attentive, we think she's probably Paolo's mom =). The breads were very nice, crispy outside, warm and pluffy inside, only turn off was they come with dipping with vinegar and I hate vinegar, would have love it even more if it was just olive oil or butter (Yes I am picky!). - 9/10 We started with the Calamari which was lightly breaded and crispy, the white dipping sauce was a little sour, but I will still give it a 8.5/10. My wife ordered the Linguini with crabmeat plus a $3 side caesar salad, it was nice because we need some veggies but don't want a full size salad. The pasta has a generous amount of lump crab meat and tomatoes, and it was delicious. - 8.5/10 I ordered the fried flounder with shrimp and potatoes, the flounder came out a bit over-fried and the potatoes were a bit salty (perhaps a little too much Old Bay spice on the side of the dish), There are some greens under the 2 slices of fried flounders which was a plus, I believe it will be better if the flounders were pan-fried. - 7/10 We were too full to try their desserts after the meal. Both of us were very happy and enjoyed the meal after spending 6 hours in Longwood Gardens, we will definitely come back the next time we are back to the area. Would give a 4.5 stars if I could. Paolo - 10/10 Food - 8.5/10 Service - 10/10

Great food. Everyone loved all the dishes. Service could have been a bit quicker, but the delicious food won out.

A surprisingly good find by the long wood gardens .. The best mushroom ravioli ever and the grilled salmon was just perfect
(5)Bella Marie W.
After going to Long Wood Gardens, our dining experience here topped off the day! Brought our own wine, and started with appetizer with delicious fire roasted red peppers, cheese & olives that went well with the warm rolls. Entree's are large and very filling, but be sure to save room for their wonderful desserts! Top dinners at our table were the Large slice of Lasagna, Rigatoni Camapagnola, and very rich Mushrooms Ravioli. Lots of sauce served on the dishes! Not suggested the eggplant parm., which is baked ontop of spaghetti and very mushy. suggestion: serve Italian loaf bread : )

I would give this place 4 stars but for some of the menu misrepresentations. For example: Carpaccio di Manzo ~ Thinly sliced beef tenderloin, shaved parmigiano cheese and arugola. The beef was not tenderloin. My guess would be eye of round. It was very tough. The shaved parmigiano was cubed domestic provolone. The "arugola" supposedly meaning arugula (rucola in Italian) was the ubiquitous spring mix. Don't get me wrong. The portion was huge and the salad was well dressed but I would rather pay extra for an appetizer portion of the real thing. The bread and dipping oil were very nice and the lasagne and mushroom ravioli delicious. Service was good and prices reasonable, but please, do not try to deceive people with embellished menu descriptions.

Bite of Italy is the old Manny Hattan's location, with lots of renovations into it's current state. On the night I went, our waiter, was as green as it gets. Awkward, uncomfortable and goofy. Me and my buddy were having fun with him by the end of the evening, but anyone expecting any sort of normal service would not be so pleased. Dinner started off with some fresh baked rolls and seasoned olive oil. This was really nice. Hard to go wrong here. We ordered a Pizza Margherita. Despite the cheese note really being melted (obviously sliced too thick), the crust and tomato sauce was delicious. We probably should have stopped there. I ordered one of my staples for dinner. Veal Saltimbocca. When it came out, I was sort of in disbelief. Instead of prosciutto, there was a giant slice of ham, folded in half, sitting on top. This is a MAJOR foul, for a place with this kind of name. Having been to Italy myself, living in South Philly for 7 years, eaten at enough Italian restaurants, I found this to be quite hilarious. The sauce was way too rich and slightly salty. The veal unfortunately, which seemed tender enough, was buried under the sauce. The owners need to do three things to keep their namesake in check. 1. Fire the chef, and re-visit the preparation of the entrees. We NEED a good Italian restaurant in Southern Chester County. Because seriously, there isn't one anywhere close. I would tell the owners to get back in the kitchen if they have some of their family recipes. That would do quite nicely for the area. 2. Train the wait staff. 3. Throw out the ham, forever... please.
(2)Paulina K.
Not impressed. The meat lasagna had NO meat in it. The veal was undercooked and made us sick. However, The bread with olive oil was delicious and so were the mushroom raviolis. I was expecting a lot more from here.
(2)Chris L.
I found this place as I had a gift certificate for it. The staff was very friendly and appeared to be a big family. A 5-year old in the owner's family took us to our table; a very nice thing to see. The food was simply outstanding. We had pizza, a crab pasta dish, mussels, and calamari. The food came in large portions, but was very light with no grease like most Italian restaurants. The food was all incredibly fresh, and was the closest to real Italian cuisine I've had since I visited Italy last year. If you want a good Italian meal, give this place a try.
(5)D B.
Not sure why we waited so long to try it but it was our loss. So many good restaurants in the area and we just spent too much time visiting the ones we know, but the food tonight was outstanding and prices very reasonable. We will visit again soon.

Came here with family after visiting Longwood Gardens. Using my phone's Yelp app for nearby food of any cuisine type, yielded this decent-sized, strip mall restaurant. Made reservation and I must admit the place had a big enough crowd where one might have been necessary. We were seated immediately and our waitress brought soft drinks quickly. The four of us ordered calamari and the caprese salad to start. Calamari was crispy and not rubbery and the marinara sauce had a little bit of spice to it. The salad was just alright; the vinegar they used was too sweet and the tomatoes not terribly fresh. I had an eggplant parm for dinner which was decent. It had a little bit of a kick as well, but it was too salty for my taste. Free bread seemed like it was baked from a pillsbury tube of dough but I'm far from too snobby to admit I enjoyed dipping it into the caprese plate. Would visit again if in the area.

We just stopped here for lunch on the way home from Longwood Gardens and what a wonderful surprise. Friendly, attentive service, clean, comfortable seating. All of the food is delicious and obviously made from scratch. No pre-packaged or frozen stuff in sight. I had the crab bisque which wasn't overloaded with crab, but filled with delicious, complex flavors, rich broth, perfectly balanced. As for the veal sandwich, the veal slice is very thin but again just the right amount of meat to balance the roasted red pepper and fresh mozzarella. Loved the house-baked bread. My husband was delighted with his pear and brie salad, made with fresh spinach and candied walnuts with a house-made honey-Dijon vinaigrette. Even the french fries were twice-cooked, golden crisp on the outside, light and fluffy on the inside. The price of each meal (you pick 2)? $10 on the lunch special and we were both stuffed. I don't know how they can afford to do it, but I'm glad they do. I just hope enough people find out about this wonderful little restaurant so it stays open!!! (How's that for selfish motivation?)
(5)Andrew M.
Went here on the way back from Longwood Gardens. We we're tired and "settled" for this place which didn't come off as good food being in a stip mall. Exactly the opposite. Really good food, decent price and casual atmosphere. Definitely eating there next time I come to Longwood.
(5)John S.
This place is Kennett Square's best kept secret. Their food is phenomenal and their staff makes you feel at home. I highly recommend it for eat in or take-out.
(5)Shell S.
Came here before going to Longwood Gardens. Big disappointment. The crab bisque had NO crab in it. None. Two of us at the table had it and neither had any pieces of crab. It tasted like a watery cream base flavored with Old Bay seasoning. The pasta al forno had pieces of salami only. None of the other meats that were supposed to be in it were. The melted cheese in it tasted like american cheese, not what it was supposed to be. They were out of red wine. The chicken parm was ok.

Like many people, we were looking for a place to eat near Longwood Gardens. This restaurant looked promising with good reviews. However, we were rather disappointed with the food and the prices. My mother and I got the eggplant parmigiana which came with pasta. It was an average size meal. The eggplant was sliced very thin, which I like, but the sauce did not taste good. We have eaten at many Italian restaurants, and this was just mediocre sauce. My daughter got Caesar salad with tenderloin add-on. The meat was paper thin, gray and over-cooked. It also had a basil sauce which was strange on a Caesar salad. That night, my daughter got sick from the food. Two other people in our group had chicken parmigiana (tough meat but tasted average) and veal parmigiana (mediocre). The whole meal was over $100 (no alcohol) for food that was just not up to par. The wait staff was very nice. But this is not a restaurant I recommend if you are looking for a good meal.

Oh wow, step aside, other Italian restaurants in suburbia - Bite of Italy just made my #1 spot!!! Seemed like a normal lunch outing before heading to the not-so-normal-destination of Longwood Gardens (it was my first time visiting!). But from the calamari appetizer to the bread and olive oil (OMG) to the lunch combo of capricciosa pizza and insalata di pesche, I'd say that the food was more-than-solid :-) OMG THE BREAD AND OLIVE OIL - asked the server at the end of our meal to bring back one take-out box of bread and one take-out bowl of olive oil. Ahhh he complied! Thank you so much, server! How crazy...crazy good :-)
(5)Jen R.
I'd recommend Bite of Italy and look forward to my next visit. You are first served little rolls of piping hot bread and a very flavorful oil blend. The staff was very friendly and attentive to our needs. Our drinks were never empty for long. My husband had the "Tortellini all'Italiana" It is described as "Cheese tortellini served in an Alfredo cream sauce with peas and prosciutto." It was good but we both really loved my Filetto Pizza - Filetto White pizza with mozzarella, topped with cherry tomatoes, spring mix, imported Italian Prosciutto and shaved parmigiano. YUM! A friend of ours had the "Ravioli di Mare A medley of seafood ravioli, served in a blush cream sauce with baby shrimp, mussels, scallops and diced salmon" and was also very pleased. The outside could use some updating. You can't tell if it is an open restaurant, or an abandoned retail space, from the parking lot. Check in on yelp 5 times (if i'm remembering correctly) and get a coupon towards your next meal :)

This restaurant is now my favorite Italian place - if only it were closer! We had tickets to go to Longwood Gardens with another couple and wanted to make dinner plans beforehand. I searched online for a restaurant near Longwood Gardens and this one popped up. I was a little skeptical at first when I saw that it was in a shopping center (as was everyone else with me) but as soon as I had my first bite of gnocchi I forgot all about it. The food was awesome and very inexpensive! There were four of us and our bill was about $65 including tax. My fiance usually doesn't even like Italian and typically I have to drag him to any Italian restaurant but he could not stop raving about it the next day. We loved that it was BYOB as well. Our waiter was very attentive. We asked him to wrap up a couple of dishes that we couldn't finish and someone accidentally knocked my plate over in the kitchen and he had the chef make me a whole new plate of it when there was maybe only a quarter left in the bowl. I told him he did NOT have to do that, so I asked him to cancel it and he then brought us free dessert! We were so stuffed but managed to each get a few bites in. Delicious! I cannot say enough great things about this restaurant and we will definitely be going back every time that we are out there!

This place is fantastic. Owners are engaging, and fun to talk to. Especially if you are a futbol fan. I have eaten here twice. Both times I was impressed with the clean flavors and simple ingredients. I had the lunch combo ($10) both times. Soup and salad, then soup and pizza. Keep it up boys!
(5)Mark M.
Ten of us after Longwood G had the 5 appetizer special. All were very good and staff was fun to interact with.
(4)Jeff D.
I've eaten here for lunch a few times. They have an awesome lunch special. Great calamari appetizer! Their pizza is great. Owners are very friendly bunch. Definitely would eat here again.
(4)Aaron F.
Just moved into town and looking for a good family friendly place to eat. The food was very tasty and the service was great. The ambiance is "modern strip mall", but otherwise we liked it.
(4)Chris C.
Wait staff needs experience. Basic red sauce Italian joint, but nothing special. I have heard the pizza is good, but have not tried it.
(2)Cliff A.
At that time we were just looking for a quick bite for something Italian and was very impressed with the service and food. Highly recommended.
(4)Christine S.
I decided to stop in after shopping. Ordered a Caprese Panini to take home. Delicious! Can't wait to try more on the menu.
